Giving Opportunities +Empowering People =Self-Sufficiency

Poverty is considered a critical social issue and the root cause of a wide spectrum of other socio-economic problems. Poverty can be describe as a lack of essential items – such as food, clothing, water, and shelter – needed for proper living.

The people Sabu Help currently work with live in the villages Biu, Gaani, Kologo and Tampola in the Upper East Region, Kassena/Nankana District, Ghana.  These people live on less than one US dolllar a day. These people are parents of one to six children. They work many days on their farms-Monday through Saturday.  They farm with hand tools and to them rest and food are important to remain physically capable of fulfilling the next days work. Funds giving to them will enable them as subsistence farmers to work together to expand their farming business and to provide adequate food to feed their families. They will also be able to start a savings account with which to buy sheep, goats, and seeds for the next year.  Some of these farmers hope to afford school for their children and themselves in the future as well.

Through the provision of small loans, basic business training, encouragement and access to other financial services, people living in poverty are helped to start or expand their own businesses or microenterprises. By their own efforts, the poor are able to support their families, emerge from the cycle of poverty and contribute in many positive ways to the long-term development of their communities.

When given the opportunity to become clients, poor entrepreneurs are able to combine a funds and training from Sabu Help with their own hard work, skills and ideas to build businesses that allow them to support their families. Regardless of the size of the funds, the results are significant. With profits from their businesses, parents will able to send their children to school, provide better nutrition, health care, shelter and clothing, become engaged in their communities and to break the cycle of poverty.

Sabu Help’s program understands the culture of and has a heart for the communities where we work to give the poor the opportunity to free themselves from poverty through profitable business ownership. Our programs are designed to become self-sustaining, meaning that the loans pay back with no interest will be helping many more families in many communities.
